Here is a brief explanation of the linoprinting process:

Linoprinting is a relief printing process. A design is drawn onto linoleum and cut using v-tools and gouges, leaving the areas to be printed ‘in relief’. Ink is applied to the lino block using rollers. Paper is then placed on top of the lino block and an image produced using a relief press often combined with hand-burnishing. Each print (known as a linocut) is original and signed in the lower right-hand corner by the artist. The edition numbering is pencilled in the opposite corner, two numbers separated by a forward slash, for example, 23/40. The number to the right represents the total number of prints in the hand-printed limited edition; the number on the left represents the order in the sequence in which the artist has printed them. The system of numbering is designed to guarantee the authenticity and uniqueness of each print. For further information about the process please go to ‘linoprinting’ on the main menu.
